About us

Waterproofers who know Jersey City buildings from the basement up

We work from a head office in Carteret and an office on Newark Avenue in downtown Jersey City, keeping water out of rowhouses, brownstones, frame houses, walk-ups and condo buildings.

Why a company named for Carteret works mostly in Jersey City

Waterproofing Services Carteret started from the head office at 83 Willow St in Carteret, and the name stuck. The work grew north, because Jersey City and the rest of Hudson County have more old stone foundations, filled ground, combined sewers, parapets and roof decks per block than almost anywhere in the state. So we opened an office at 218 Newark Avenue, close to the rowhouses and walk-ups that make up most of our calls.

Today one phone number reaches both offices, and it's answered around the clock. Jersey City and Hudson County calls are handled from Newark Avenue; Carteret, Woodbridge, Rahway and the towns around them from Willow Street.

How we approach water

We find the source before we fix anything. In attached buildings, water often enters at a neighbor's party wall, an areaway drain, a failed parapet or a leader dumping at the foundation, and shows up somewhere else entirely. So we look, measure, water-test and photograph first.

We tell you plainly what we found. If a crack injection or a regraded yard will solve it, we say so instead of selling a full system. If the wall is under real groundwater pressure, we show you the readings and explain why sealer paint won't hold.

We work cleanly in tight spaces. Dust control when we cut a basement floor, protected stairs and hallways, careful staging on narrow blocks, and a working sump before we leave each night when a job runs several days.

The buildings we know best

  • Brownstone and brick rowhouses with stone foundations and front areaways in Hamilton Park, Van Vorst Park, Paulus Hook and Harsimus Cove
  • Two- and three-family frame houses in the Heights, Greenville and the West Side
  • Pre-war walk-ups around Journal Square and McGinley Square, with deep basements and old floor drains
  • Condo and rental towers on the waterfront, with garages, elevator pits, decks and terraces
  • Houses with basements and crawl spaces across Middlesex and Union County near our Carteret head office
